The one and only Andy Warhol, director of The Cars’ “Hello Again” video

In 1984, after a few successes on MTV with “You Might Think,” “Magic,” and “Drive,” multi-platinum new wave band The Cars enlisted international media icon Andy Warhol to direct the video for their song “Hello Again”. Check out this recently unearthed behind-the-scenes “Making Of” video that spotlights the band, co-director Don Munroe, Warhol nightlifers John Sex & Dianne Brill, as well as a very young Gina Gershon with alphabet soup letters on her tongue.

In an era where English art school grads and American beer commercial directors hoarded the directing jobs of music videos on MTV, the Cars’ “Hello Again” clip injected America’s teenage living rooms with some seldom-seen downtown New York — in all its androgynous, twisted, satirical glory.
